In the 19th century, in 1805, a ship called Velocity was sailing through the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. It was carrying European emigrants, which were heading to America, the New World, whether in seek of better life, because of personal affairs, because of business, or because of vacations. There were people of all social and material statuses on it, from rich business owners to servants.
For them, it was just another travel. None of them were alarmed by the dark clouds which came upon the sky. It all happened suddenly, and before they knew it the ship was in the middle of the wildest storm they have ever seen.
The waves were at least five meters high, and the wind and the rain were making such noise that even the thunder was barely heard.
The next morning, the passengers, those who survived, woke up on a wonderful island.
At first without hope, things, or happiness, soon they have realized that what they really had was a paradise.
The island was wonderful-uninhabited, with the water always warm, the sun always shining, and the most dangerous animal they ever encountered was a rattlesnake.
Soon, they decided to pick up the pieces and move on.
Together, they have founded a new civilization, calling the island after their first queen, the woman who brought them all together-Moira Island.
Now, 200 years have passed, and nobody has discovered the Island nor its inhabitants. They know nothing of technology, wars, or all the misfortunes of the modern world.
Moira, the great-great-great granddaughter the one whose name the Island bears, is the Queen of her people now.
But, every now and then, modern airplanes fly over the island, leaving the inhabitants in surprise and questions. Some have already expressed their opinion about wishing to leave the island and see the world.
Will their little kingdom survive, or will it be destroyed by the modern world? |
